JMB Workshops is a company founded by Juliana Bonovich aimed at developing students who are both stronger writers and more passionate writers. Juliana is a Bay Area native who graduated from St. Simon School in 2009 and St. Francis High School in 2013. Her interest in the teaching of writing has been evident for many years. At St. Francis, she worked as an English tutor for the California Scholarship Federation (CSF). Outside of St. Francis, she tutored several peers and students in English. Both at St. Francis and in college, Juliana has edited countless essays. Juliana recently graduated (December 2016) from Emory University in Atlanta, GA as an English and Creative Writing Major.
Beyond her natural inclination for teaching writing, Juliana has special training. She completed a 4-week long creative writing class at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland the summer before her senior year. Additionally (as previously stated), she studied English/Creative Writing at Emory University in Atlanta, GA–which USA Today has judged the best school in the nation for undergraduates interested in writing.
Her first summer, Juliana taught over 100 hours of classes to over 20 students ranging from incoming second graders to incoming juniors in high school. She taught 3 different courses and also helped students with their summer writing homework in both private lessons and group sessions of 2-4 students. Now, she has taught over 200 hours to over 30 students and offers 7 different classes. She also creates classes to fit the specific needs of your student. To see the classes, fees, and availability, look at the “Writing Classes” tab, (specific courses in a drop-down menu). While she is moving to Washington D.C. this summer to work at Atlantic Media’s National Journal, she offers long distance teaching and tutoring–working with students via Skype (or other video conferencing service). Fees and availability listed under the “Tutoring” tab.
To see some of Juliana’s work, visit Juliana’s poetry blog. A few of her favorites include “Galileo’s Journal: An Excerpt,” “Butterfly,” and “The Museum.” In September of 2015, she was invited to share her poetry and represent Emory University at the Decatur Book Festival–the largest independent book festival in the nation. This is the link to Juliana’s bio from the event (she was the only student reader from Emory). Juliana is willing to send samples of critical work upon request.
